Given the situation at the Capitol, I anticipated reporting complete carnage. However, several of the most problematic bills did manage to navigate the obstacle course and complex legislative process. For instance, we were not deemed felons when utilizing our court order to change our name and gender marker.
I expected to report on Hurricane Katrina and instead am reporting on Hurricane Ike
This is the kind of statement that gets me in trouble. I am sure someone who lost belongings or family in Hurricane Ike does not appreciate the reference.
It is true, nevertheless, that Houston bounced back much faster from Ike than New Orleans bounced back from Katrina. What is important is that both cities bounced back.
Both the Queer Community and the Democratic party look to the casual observer to be down and out with no Ann Richards on the horizon to restore the party to its former glory.
That observation is what separates the casual observer from the student of Texas politics. In fact, there are two House members running for Statewide office, who could very well win.
One is Vickie Goodwin, who is running for Lieutenant Governor. The other is James Taliririco, who will probably run for Governor.
With a little luck and a lot of money, either or both can break the almost 30-year string of Republican domination.
Money is key. Please consider making a generous donation to both of these fine candidates. And while you're at it, don't forget to throw some sheckles Sparkle's way as well.
