I usually don't talk about religion as it and politics are something most of us were taught to avoid. I am going to make an exception in this case, as there is the expectation in the minds of many evangelical Christians that LGBTQ individuals are Godless heathens
That is not true in my case. Certainly, it is not true for many others. I know many individuals who are part of leadership, both clergy and laypeople, who are LGBTQ.
In my case, I have been a Unitarian Universalist since 1987, and a believer since 2007 when I survived a pulmonary embolism.
Ironically, it was being placed on a Mormon prayer list that convinced me that there was something in the universe bigger than me and bigger than any human being.
I had nothing in common with the Mormon church, but I was placed on the prayer list after suffering a pulmonary embolism in 2007. Thaconvinced me that there was something in the universe bigger than humans and something greater than self-interest.
The fact that I believe in something that I have labeled God doesn't mean that I believe in an Old Testament God. In fact my God looks and sounds a lot like the pop star Lisso.
Only after I described my personal God to my Intergenerational pen pal did I learn about the Mayan God of chocolate.
I am writing about my religious beliefs as I want to be as candid as I can be with the voters. It is my way of making amends for my lack of transparency in 2017-2018.
