On May 24 Sparkle's former persona Glenn "Grumpy" Williams interviewed Sparkle.
It is obvious that the two personas don't like other. The transcript of the interview is as follows:
Grumpy - Does Texas really need another transgender gubernatorial candidate?
Sparkle - If the question is will Texas disappear if it doesn't have a trans candidate then no it doesn't NEED one. If the question is could Texas benefit from having the experience of someone newly separated from power, than Texas needs a trans candidate. Texas needs me because I am a firm proponent of the Gospel of Glitter, Joy and Inclusion.
Grumpy - So how do you place yourself on the gender binary?
Sparkle - I define myself as a transgender person who presents as a female.
Grumpy - Is this a way to avoid the problema associated with the definition of woman?
Sparkle - No.I identity most with the trans and non binary community.
Grumpy - So why do you think you will do better than I did?
Sparkle - I am a much better candidate than you were. I am better focused, nicer and have much better clothes than you have.
Grumpy - How can you say you are nicer?
Sparkle - Remember how you responded when the potential supporter wanted you to commit to calling five donors a night ?
Grumpy - Yes. I said no. Life is too short to commit to something like that. You would have turned him down too.
Sparkle - Yes but it's the way you did it. You didn't have to remind him that the great thing about a contested primary is that he didn't have to vote for you. He knew that.
Grumpy - How are you going to compete financially? Candidates for State Office are wealthy and you don't even own a car.
Sparkle - Lots of Texas governors didn't own a car. Sam Houston didn't own a car.
Grumpy - I knew Sam Houston. Sam Houston was a friend of mine. You are No Sam Houston! Seriously, how are you going to compete?
Sparkle - I don't believe in the conventional God with the white beard and all that. I do believe in a god that looks and sounds a lot like Lizzo. She acts in unconditional ways. As an example in 1978 I was running my first ever Marathon. It was in Corpus Christi over labor day weekend and it was hot and humid. I was at the very back at the pack. I was miserable and on the verge of quitting. At mile 25 a group of little kids started a chat "Don't Die. Don't Die. Please Don't Die." I started to laugh and finished the race.
Grumpy - I was the one who this happened to and I remember it differently. I remembered a bunch of sarcastic kids. I certainly didn't see them as emissaries from some Lizzo like God.
Sparkle - No matter what their motives we still laughed and finished the marathon.
Grumpy - Is that the best you can come up with? Trust in a Lizzo like God?
Sparkle - Well... and this is a good time to remind you and all the readers, that there is an Act Blue link on this website to donate to my campaign. Two acutally. A small one with a mention on the events page, and a larger dedicated section with a big blue button on the home page.
Grumpy - So we are getting near the end, much to both of our mutual relief. What is your view of TERFs - the Trans Exckusiory Radical feminists?
Sparkle - I have a complex relationship. Many of them would have been my friends in the 70's. They now ignore me if they see me.
I understand that they really hate what I represent and I feel bad about that. I do know one TERF who l like a lot. From her I have a better understanding of the concerns. Unfortunately some of the concerns are becoming less prominent as the protections and diversity programs have been eliminated.
I guess my plea would be despite what grievances the TERFs might have against my generation that they not hold it against the trans and nonbinary children. These young people have so much going against them I would hope that they didn't have to deal with TERF animosity as well.
Grumpy - Any final words?
Sparkle - My name is Sparkle Williams. You may erase me but I will be damned if I am going to erase myself.
Grumpy - Not exactly the fighting words I was looking for but I guess they will have to do.
