My Position on Marijuana

What are we waiting for? It is time to come into the 21st Century and decriminalize marijuana. Marijuana use is fairly common in Texas, just the same as it is in the other 49 states. Privately, Politicians from both parties will admit to its use. (In my case, I tried it in law school but didn't like it)
We have carved out exceptions like medical marijuana, but these exceptions are convoluted. Marijuana possession has always been selectively enforced, and selective enforcement is never acceptable. The hypocrisy has led to general disrespect for the law.
In particular, it has played havoc in child protection with use having been a factor leading to the removal of the child from the home and usually defeating what otherwise would be excellent relative placements.
We do have a drug problem in this state, but it is not with marijuana. We need more rehab facilities, and taxing the purchase of marijuana is an excellent way of supplementing the cost of these rehab programs.
The decriminalization of Marijuana should have occurred ten years ago. There is no reason not to do so now.
