Pumping Up Meta/Facebook Friends - BIG MISTAKE

One of the unique features of this website is that we chronicle the myriad of mistakes I make. I make these mistakes so future candidates don't have to.

One of the biggest mistakes I have made was dramatically increasing my presence on Facebook. I announced on a Jon and Gary Zoom call that it was the biggest mistake of my life.

Gary immediately challenged me. "I don't think so. Let's start with your car purchases." He spent the next five minutes going through some of my most egregious blunders. Finally Amy, Gary's wife, put a stop to it. I don't know if she felt sorry for me or was just bored.

The dramatic increase in my presence on Facebook may not rank as my biggest blunder, it was a bad mistake nevertheless.

I can't say I wasn't warned.

Jo Jo, the marvelous designer of this website, told me of the many unscrupulous people on Facebook. Within moments, I began to see this. The first few add-ons, Facebook friends Agent John and Agent Mary, tried to convince me that I would win a fortune if only I would pay for delivery fees, or send gift cards.

The scam that really got me, was from someone purporting to be Elon Musk. According to this individual, I won a new Tesla... I only needed to pay for a Tesla Activation Certificate.

Of course, Gary had to point out that a Tesla made little sense as he doubted my apartment had a charging station. I have no idea where such a station is.

The scams were not the only problem. I got some fairly shocking proposals and messages that included x-rated language.

The only good thing to come from all this is that Dolly Parton liked my website. Gary expressed skepticism that Dolly Parton personally viewed and approved my website. Gary is a non-believer when it comes to celebrities, however.

One mistake I did not make was hiring Jo Jo to design this website. She has been a joy to work with and is incredibly competent.

To give you just one example, I received a threatening email claiming that I had violated some value standards and that my website would be removed from the Internet unless I paid this specialist a king's ransom. Jo Jo immediately saw that this was a bogus threat and talked me off the ledge.

I give Jo Jo my full endorsement. I don't think there is any task she cannot do.

In my 2017 campaign for State Senate, I seemed to have trouble asking for help. The Democratic candidate in our district was appalled that I didn't ask for money from attendees at my announcement. There will be none of that this time around!  I have taken to singing the Temptations song "Ain't Too Proud to Beg" at every opportunity. 😊

Please support my campaign through ACTBLUE, linked below. You can also donate via a CHECK made out to Glenn Williams (not Glenna), Mail to: PO Box 17093, Austin, TX 78717.
