Sparkle Goes to Socialist Convention

In May, I went to the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) Austin Convention.
I was prepared not to like the group.
There were many reasons for that. I remember all of Bell Hooks' problems with the Bernie Bros, which confirmed my experience with DSA when I first transitioned.
My long list of grievances included their attempt to get rid of the filibuster, which seemed irresponsible since it was a given that the Democrats were going to lose the Senate in 2024. To make matters worse, I was completely turned off by a Zoom call on the Thursday before the Saturday convention... There was no mention of the disastrous legislative session that was wrapping up! There was also discussion about leaving the Democratic Party and forming a new party. I considered this to be not only a bad idea but also belongs on the Mount Rushmore of bad ideas.
Fairly quickly, all these preconceptions were swept aside.
Justice Vaughan, a dynamic trans woman, gave an incredibly impressive report. And she was accompanied on stage by six trans or non-binary members of her committee.
It seemed that no one was serious about forming a new party.
When I asked, "How can you be mad at the Dems? They have been working weekends and staying up until 4 in the morning fighting for us," no one argued.
I ended up joining in and singing solidarity forever at the top of my lungs.
I am sure it won't last long.
There is too much Grumpy in my persona.
But as for now, you can call me Comrade Sparkle
