Texas Needs More Rehab Facilities - A Lot More

One thing I learned from work in child protection is that adoption is not the feel-good/happy-ever-after solution portrayed in Hallmark movies. Nothing is universal, so there are some instances in which adoptions do work out. The number of successful adoptions is not large and generally requires a lenient definition of “successful”.
The odds are much better if the children can be returned to their parents or family. The biggest impediment to successful return is the parents' drug use - usually meth use.
Almost always, that requires a rehab facility. Funding is always an issue. I think is a price we need to pay. IIf not, we have a funding source readily available. We could legalize marijuana and tax it at a stiff rate, and the spending problem will be reduced significantly.
It may not be a perfect solution, but it certainly is an improvement over the status quo.
